I'd say adventure bikes or dual sport style bikes are best for commuting. I ride my KLR 650 daily and I must say the following aspects such as the availability for luggage, the upright seating position, the load capacity, the fuel tank size (fuel range), the ease of maintenance being a single cylinder and much more make adventure motorcycles the absolute ideal bike for daily riding. I have a video on my channel discussing some of these concepts in detail if you want to check it out.

First mod I would do is to get rid of the stock exhaust mufler, and get a nice lightweight one. Second - 150/60 17 rear tire .

Hmm won't this drain battery when not used? In order to skip that use a relay switch or connect to one of the wires powered up by the ignition. Only downside is that you won't be able to charge your phone while the ignition is turned off but I would rather have that than being stranded or getting an earlier undercharged/damaged battery.
